Matched was very original in the sense that it featured two very different boys as Cassia's options. Ky was an aberration, which Cassia eventually was aware of, and never really stood out to her. Xander had been Cassia's friend throughout her entire life. She knew him well, he was handsome, smart and the ideal husband for her. Most novels I've read feature two boys that are very similar which makes the decision between the two even harder for the girl. However in Matched, Ally Condie inserts a plot twist. As a reader you would think Cassia should choose the more ideal of the two boys, Xander, but Cassia goes for an aberration. This makes the novel more shocking and exciting.
